UPDATE!

Bernard update: Bernard's xrays were sent to LSU for the radiologist to look at, just to be sure since 2 vets saw two different things. The radiologist agreed, lung disease, and what appears to have been heart worm disease (he may have had them and been treated at one point). He recommended a sedation and oral exam next then scope if no improvement. A lot of these chronic lung diseases are manageable but not 100% curable. Bernard will return to the vet on Thursday. Stay tuned for more updates. :)

Bernard's Story

Bernard is a very special guy!  He was found as a stray on a golf course and brought to JPAS WB in December.  He is the happiest dog that we have ever met.  You will never see Bernard without a big, goofy smile on his face and tail wagging.  He loves every person and dog that he meets and the feeling is mutual!  You just have to love this character!

The whole time Bernard has been at the shelter he had a bad cough.  He was heartworm tested twice and both tests came back negative.  He was treated for kennel cough and the cough did not get any better.  The Pit Stop took Bernard to get chest x-rays to find out what was going on.  Unfortunately it was much more severe than we expected, Bernard has a severe heart condition.  His heart is enlarged and has fluid around it making his time with us limited.  One of our amazing volunteers decided to take Bernard on as a foster and has started his heart medications.

Bernard will be seeing the vet on a regular basis and we will have further diagnostics done to see if there is anything else we can do for this absolutely amazing dog.  His vet bills are piling up and his monthly medications will be costly.  If you would like to donate to help offset the cost of Bernard's continuing medical bills, please hit the donate button :)

With sincere appreciation for all that you do,
The Pit Stop Rescue
